It Doesn’t Need to Be Olympic-Sized
Depending on how much backyard space you are working with, you will need to choose the size of your pool. You may find that a smaller pool would best fit your expectations, and you may want what’s known as a “cocktail pool.” This type of pool encourages pure leisure and lounging—a perfect way to spend your time on the hottest of summer days.
The second big consideration is what shape your pool should take. Your landscape designer can help you consider the right shape for your landscape along with what type of pool would best fit your needs, whether it’s a gunite swimming pool, vinyl liner, or fiberglass. Some types of pools can achieve optimal flexibility, to make your pool much different than the typical ones you may see in your neighborhood.
Make the Pool Yours With Special Features
A waterfall can be constructed to basically any type or size of the swimming pool. You could have a lush rainforest lagoon cascade built right next to your pool. You could also have a minimalistic cubic, sleek, marble, and glass waterfall gently streaming water into it. You could even have the waterfall built so that it extends slightly over the pool and enough space below to have a hollowed-out cave grotto where swimmers can duck through the waterfall.
Opt for a Water Wall
It’s unlikely that you want the entire neighborhood to see when you’re relaxing by the pool. A great way to keep things away from prying eyes is to have a privacy wall designed and built. However, it doesn’t need to be a simple wall that simply blocks the view. It could be a water wall built on a giant pane of glass that gently streams water down to obscure any identifiable objects through the glass. Rock walls are good for this too! Bonus points since it adds another level of elegance, best used with the minimalist waterfall approach! It adds a sonic level as well, since anytime the water wall is turned on, you’ll hear the gentle splashing of water streaming down the even surface.
A Spillover Hot Tub
Of course hot tubs work well with all of these features. Another way to incorporate your hot tub into the pool and landscape work is to place it on ground above the pool so that any excess water flows over the edge of the hot tub directly into the pool.
A Baja Shelf
The Baja shelf allows a nice gradual approach to entering a pool. It can start from barely dipping your feet and as you move into the pool it gets deeper. This is great for young and old swimmers as it takes out the issue of climbing up and down a steep set of stairs or a ladder. The shallow end also offers a place to relax without being submerged.
